HERE ARE SOME KEY SAFETY TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND

1. Pyrotechnics are for use by only competent adults and professionals who have a complete understanding of proper operating procedure. If you are not one of these people, you should not attempt to use pyrotechnic devices or chemicals. If misused, they can be extremely dangerous.

2. Take only devices and chemicals needed for each performance. Do not store excess materials on or near the stage.

3. When setting up a performance, try to have the stage clear of crew and other personnel for added safety. Only one person should be responsible for set up and firing a performance.

4. Ensure that properly working fire fighting equipment and emergency first aid supplies are available.

5. Make absolutely sure that no smoking or open flame is allowed near (within 50 feet of) the performance area.

6. Secure all pyrotechnic devices where there is no possibility of bodily injury, or damage to property such as scenery, costumes and fabric.

7. Make sure that proper flame proofing has been applied to above items.

8. Ensure that the pyrotechnic operator has a clear line of sight through the entire performance, and that no devices are fired unless it is completely safe to do so.

9. Use the smallest effect or material possible to achieve the desired effect.

10. When using a key switch controller, the operator should always keep the key in his/her pocket with the switch in the OFF position when not at the controller. For ultimate safety, the operator should only turn the key switch ON just before firing the cue.

11. The cardinal rule in pyrotechnics is: IF IN DOUBT... LEAVE IT OUT.
